You don’t always need an RV park. Sometimes when trip planning and traveling, all you need is a safe place to park and spend the night. Walmart has long been a haven for the tired RVer in need of a place to sleep.
Unfortunately, local laws have begun to deny weary travels from parking in their towns with more frequent regularity. That’s why we recommend using
Using RV Trip Wizard
An amazing tool that will help you with not only finding Walmarts to stay at but also trip planning is the browser-based program called RV Trip Wizard.
Users have found this all-encompassing service can help you document your travel route, keep track of campgrounds, attractions you’d like to visit, gas stops, and even your trip costs along the way.
If you are planning a trip from Location A to Location B, you can find a Walmart somewhere in between that you’d like to stop to catch some rest. You can filter using the Points of Interest filters “Walmart” or “Super Walmart”.
If you would like more options, you can use the “Overnight Parking” filter to show all places that allow overnight parking like Cracker Barrel or Bass Pro Shops. Make sure to follow the Walmart boondocking rules and call and ask permission to park overnight.
If you are given the go-ahead to stay overnight, be sure to ask where the management would prefer you to park in the lot. Mark your stopover on a map you will create in RV Trip Wizard, also making note of the manager’s name and phone number, along with the parking lot location they suggested.
Continue creating your map, adding campgrounds, gas station stops, and sights to see as you travel, all documented in the RV Trip Wizard program. By the time you are ready to hit the road, you can print out your map, email it to loved ones, download it to a GPS unit, or even just route using the included RV GPS app called RV Life. You will start your trip with the confidence in knowing that some of the guesswork is taken out of your journey.
An RV LIFE PRO membership will grant you access to 5 great RV tools. These tools will help you research campgrounds, plan RV safe routes, turn your phone into an RV GPS, access courses about RVing, and even track maintenance on your RV.

Hi guys – we use RV Trip Wizard too. We haven’t used Walmart, but we have stayed at casinos. We use casinocamper.com to see which casinos allow overnight stays. This website shows all states 🇺🇸 and Canada 🇨🇦 too. I really enjoyed your caravan video last week. Safe travels 😊💕
Stayed at a Walmart once don’t know if I’ll ever do it again. Going to Yellowstone and ran out of day. We came to a Walmart and decided to give it a try. Had a nice meal at a pizza place across the street and headed for bed. There was a few RV’s on the fringes with us about 11:30 the parking lot sweeper started to clean the lot. He would make his turn around by the RV’s And went by very slowly about 5 feet from the rigs on each pass this went on for over 2 hours. Just got back to sleep and the morning freight trucks started to arrive for the morning restock. At 6 we gave up and headed to Yellowstone.
We have used Allstays ONP Walmart App if we need a quick overnighter. I think only once we haven’t gone inside and spoken to a manager directly about being able to stay. I am seeing that some Home Depots are allowing stays as well but I don’t have enough info on that.
I was viewing your top Thousand Trails parks and you included the two parks in the Florida Keys. These are not thousand trail parks they are Trails Collection or OnCore parks. Has something changed?
