We were told that a lot of people use the Thousand Trails Colorado River RV campground to split up their stays at Lake Conroe outside of Houston and Lake Medina outside of San Antonio. There is not much to do in Columbus so you won’t be out exploring the city. Luckily the park has plenty of amenities to keep you busy. We enjoyed taking strolls along the hiking trails during the day and relaxing in the spa at night.

The Thousand Trails Colorado River RV campground has two main sections, the top, and the bottom. The bottom sites are closer to the river and loosely circle a large pecan grove. The top is closer to the amenities but forms a few smaller circles so feel more crowded.

Features & Benefits

Number of sites:

There are a total of 138 sites. 35 are water and electric only with the remaining are full hookups with 50 or 30 amp.

Amenities:

  • Pool & Spa
  • Coin-op laundry
  • Dog park
  • Activity center
  • Recreational activities like horseshoes, mini golf, pickleball, etc.

What’s unique?

The spa is large, above-ground, and indoor, with these awesome blue ambiance lights. The mini golf course is in a 200-year-old pecan grove. They are actively upgrading the park. New electrical boxes, new bathroom, the recreational activities look new. It’s right on the Texas Colorado River and has access to fish and launch your boat. Amazing walking trails that circle the park, we explored them every day. This park has some of the nicest, friendliest staff.

Cell Service:

AT&T had one bar LTE, Verizon has 3 bars LTE.

Cons

  • Busy! We were stuck with a site without sewer. They did offer to put us on a list for a site when it opened but we can easily last a week.
  • Best sites on the river are gone. Like literally gone. The cliff eroded and took the 50 amp sites with a view of the river below with them.
  • In the middle of nowhere (could be a benefit for you!)
