While big fifth wheels and travel trailers often steal the show, pop-up campers are still incredibly useful.

While they may not be ideal for camping in bear country, they can allow you to get out and make memories with your loved ones in some incredible locations. However, if you want to make the most out of your time camping, you’ll want to take advantage of some pop-up camper hacks we’ve found.

Today, we’ll share some of our favorite pop-up camper hacks to help take your adventures to the next level. Let’s get started!

How Do You Make a Pop-Up Camper Better?

If you want to improve your pop-up camper, you have to consider what features it’s missing that could make your life easier while using your camper. What works for others may not be best for you and how you use yours. It takes time to know exactly what you need or would like in a camper.

Ultimately, you want it to be as easy as possible to use your camper. This could mean adding missing features, increasing battery capacity, or pop-up camper hacks, like adding tanks that allow you to haul or store more water.

Knowing your needs will help you create a list of possible projects to improve your pop-up camper.

However, if you’re dealing with an older pop-up camper and looking to renovate it entirely, you can start with aesthetics. Replacing fabrics and painting surfaces can bring a space to life.

Adding decorations can create a home-like environment that makes your pop-up camper the perfect place to relax during your travels.

Top Pop-Up Camper Hacks and Modifications

Some camper hacks and modifications can have a tremendous impact. Something simple may be just what you need to enjoy your pop-up camper fully.

Let’s look at some of the best pop-up camper hacks you must try!

Add Storage to Your Pop-Up Camper Frame

Your pop-up camper frame has a tremendous amount of wasted space at the front where it connects to your tow vehicle.

This is a great spot to add storage racks for a generator or bicycle. Lippert’s Jack-It is an example of a carrying system that takes advantage of this space.

  • MORE SPACE - Frees up space for additional cargo on the rear of the trailer where bikes are typically stored

Why waste space in the back of your tow vehicle when you can use this unused space to haul your bikes? Make sure you secure the rack to your pop-up camper’s A-frame before you hit the road, and you’ll be all set for some fun adventures no matter where you’re camping!

Attach a Gray Water Tank to the Pop-Up Camper’s Bumper

One of the biggest disadvantages of pop-up campers is that they lack adequate tank space. As a result, it’s worth having an additional storage tank for your gray water.

This can allow you to extend the time you spend using your camper, especially in areas that aren’t near a dump station.

Attaching a gray water tank to your pop-up camper’s bumper requires effort. However, it’s not an impossible task. There are cargo racks that will wrap around the bumper and tighten it, so it stays in place. Avoid over-tightening them or overloading your cargo rack, as it could crush your bumper.

Add Hooks to the Ceiling for Vertical Space

You need to take advantage of every inch of available space.

You can use a pop-up camper hack and peel-and-stick adhesive hooks stuck to the ceiling to store items you might need quick access to but don’t want taking up counter space. This is a great option for kitchen utensils and other similar items.

Luckily, since you’re using peak-and-stick, these won’t cause damage to your rig. They’re inexpensive and extremely effective at staying in place. You don’t have to worry about any mess left behind should you want to make adjustments or change the locations of the hooks.

Create Stacking Drawers With Velcro

Storage is nearly nonexistent in many pop-up campers. As a result, you sometimes have to get creative and use a pop-up camper hack. You can find inexpensive plastic storage containers at retailers like Walmart or Target. Stack them on top of each other and secure them using velcro.

First, stack the containers on top of each other. You can then place a velcro strip on the bottom corners of the top container and the top corners of the bottom ones.

You’ll need a piece of velcro large enough to lay on top of the two pieces and connect them. This will help reduce the chances of any slippage while using them.

Change the Light Bulbs to Save Energy

The light bulbs that come with RVs are typically cheap and ineffective.

However, upgrading your light bulbs or fixtures can drastically improve the look and feel of your RV. In addition, using LEDs instead of a typical lightbulb can drastically reduce the power you use while lighting up inside your pop-up camper.

This hack is worth trying for those who want to spend time camping in off-grid situations. While it won’t increase the size of your battery bank, it can help it last longer. The longer you can spend enjoying your camper, the better.

Use Shower Curtains With Suction Cups

You likely don’t want to put holes in the walls of your pop-up camper. However, you’ll need somewhere to shower unless you’re staying in campgrounds with shower facilities.

Using suction cups to hang a shower curtain can be a great option to provide privacy and avoid getting your entire camper wet while you shower. In addition, you don’t have to worry about damaging the walls of your pop-up camper. It’s a win-win!

Use a Hanger and an Extension Cord to Hang Lanterns

After the sun goes down, you will want to keep your campsite illuminated.

However, you may not always be in a place that offers power or has a convenient spot to hang your lanterns. Since many campers travel with long extension cords, there’s an option to use them to hang them.

Wrap an extension cord around two trees and use it to hang a lightweight lantern. Avoid putting too much weight on the cord, or you could damage it. This will allow you to place the lantern in a safe location out of the way to light up your entire campsite.
