Northstar campers are pop-up or hardwall truck campers that fit trucks of various sizes. They range from 6 feet 3 inches to 8 feet 6 inches in length and 1,258 to 2,090 pounds. Pricing ranges from $24,995 for the 600SS pop-up model to $32,995 for the Laredo SC model.

Who Owns Northstar Campers?

Since 1961, Northstar has been selling truck campers to dealers. But the company actually began in 1955. That’s when the father/son duo of Ralph (Tex) Willett and Robert (Chuck) Willett started Texson Campers. In the 1980s, Chuck’s son Rex took over the company and renamed it Northstar Campers. R.C. Willett Co., Inc now owns it. The company is still the same family that began manufacturing truck campers in 1955.

Where Are Northstar Campers Made?

The Willett family has lived and served the Cedar Falls, Iowa community since the inception of Texson Campers in 1955. Rex still manufactures Northstar truck campers in Cedar Falls, although the GPS physical address is Waterloo, Iowa. Their dealers stretch from coast to coast. They’re in California, Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Michigan, New Hampshire, Washington, Wisconsin, and Texas. Northstar also has international dealers in Argentina, Chile, Germany, and Sweden.

Pop-Up Truck Campers

Northstar builds pop-up truck campers for almost any size truck. There are three current options: 600SS, TC650, and 850SC. All three models have a cabover bed, dinette seating, and hamper storage on either side of the bed. The 600SS fits smaller long-bed trucks like the Toyota Tacoma and Ford Ranger. It’s 6 feet 3 inches and comes with a Dometic 3.7 cubic foot three-way fridge with a removable freezer. It also has a Dometic glass top two-burner stove and electric roof lift. The dry weight is 1,258 pounds.

The TC650 fits a full-size truck with an ultra-short or standard short bed. It’s 6 feet 8 inches with a dry weight of 1,405 pounds and has the same features as the 600SS. The 850SC fits a full-size truck with a short or long bed and has a dry weight of 1,785 pounds. It has the same features as the other two pop-ups. That includes an exterior shower and interior shower/cassette toilet combination.

Hardwall Truck Campers

Only two models in the hardwall truck camper line are currently available to order: Liberty and Laredo SC. Both models feature a walk-on rubber roof, a Lagun swing-away table system, and a single lever faucet with a pull-out sprayer.

The Liberty is manufactured for ultra-short or standard short bed trucks and is the lightest of the two units at 1,775 pounds. The 7-foot floor length features a 60-inch by 80-inch queen bed, side storage units, and a dinette with overhead storage. The kitchen has a Dometic 3.7 cubic foot three-way fridge with a removable freezer and a Dometic glass top two-burner stove. 

The Laredo SC layout is similar to the Liberty but is fully self-contained. This 8-foot 6-inch camper fits a standard short bed or long bed trucks. The dry weight is 2,090 pounds. In addition to the features of the Liberty model, the Laredo SC also has an interior shower with a cassette toilet and an upgraded three-burner stove.
