If you’ve driven through a campground, you’ve probably seen the name Grand Design. Perhaps you’ve seen the Reflection, Imagine, or Solitude proudly set up with the awning out and LED lights shining. Grand Design also manufactures the Momentum series. Let’s take a closer look at this company’s toy hauler options.

Who Is Grand Design RV?

Founded by brothers Ron and Bill Fenech and their close friend Don Clark in 2012, Grand Design has become one of the most popular manufacturers of RVs in the industry.

Grand Design learns the needs and wants of their customers to improve their products. Feedback and excellent customer service are part of their DNA. As a result, it’s a leading manufacturer of travel trailers, fifth wheels, and toy haulers.

Grand Design stands by their RVs, offering warranties for full-time use, stamping their products with the “Extended Stay Approved” tag, and providing a 3-year limited structural warranty. Many seasoned RVers own a Grand Design and have remained loyal to the company over the years.

What Is a Toy Hauler RV?

A toy hauler RV can carry your big toys like ATVs, golf carts, motorcycles, and more. It has a garage space in the rear with a ramp that provides easy access.

Some families convert the garage into a bunkhouse for the kids or a master suite for the parents instead. This renovation offers lots of personal space for everyone.

What Is a Grand Design Momentum?

The Grand Design Momentum series is the company’s only toy hauler option; however, you can get one as a fifth wheel or travel trailer. The smallest of the series is the G-Class travel trailer. They also make the lightweight G-Class fifth wheel and the top-of-the-line M-Class fifth wheel.

Let’s take a closer look at these three product lines that Grand Design offers.

About the Grand Design Momentum G-Class Travel Trailer

The creation of the Grand Design Momentum G-Class travel trailer is a testament to Grand Design’s listening ears. Customers wanted a smaller toy hauler option, and the company produced it. It has a gel-coated fiberglass exterior, laminated aluminum frame, diamond plate front rock guard, and heated and enclosed underbelly.

This toy hauler has the same features as its fifth wheel counterpart. However, the Momentum G-Class travel trailer comes with a 30 amp service, whereas the Momentum G-Class fifth wheel has a 50 amp service.

The Momentum G-Class travel trailer has more options than the fifth wheel units and has seven different floor plans. The 30G floor plan features a king bed while the others have queen beds in the master suite. It’s the only one to offer a dinette as well.

The smallest option measures 27 ft, while the longest option is almost 36 ft. These units also vary in weight, with the lightest option having a GVWR of 9,995 lbs and the heaviest option having a GVWR of 12,000 lbs. You won’t need as big a truck to tow these travel trailers as you will with the fifth wheel units.

About the Grand Design Momentum G-Class Fifth Wheel

Grand Design also produced the Momentum G-Class fifth wheel in response to customer feedback. People wanted a lighter option than the Momentum M-Class. The ceiling, slide-out heights, and wide-body design make the Momentum G-Class fifth wheel feel spacious and comfortable.

Grand Design offers customers a 36-ft option (320G) and an almost 40-ft option (350G). The GVWR remains the same for both at 16,800 lbs. The 320G model has a garage of 11 ft, and the 350G model has a larger garage of 14.5 ft.

Both models offer a queen bed, fireplace and entertainment center, theater seating couch, and HappiJac sofas in the garage.

This model has several options for individuals, couples, and families, featuring five floorplans. You can get a model with four-seat sofas, L-shaped sofas, or theater seating in the living space. Plus, You can find one with a kitchen island or a free-standing dinette.

The garage sizes vary also. Ranging from 11 to 18 ft, you can choose the garage space that fits your needs. All of the garages feature an overhead bed and the HappiJac sofas.

The Grand Design Momentum M-Class is the heavier option with a GVWR between 16,800 and 20,000 lbs. You’ll need a dually truck to haul one of these. The wide-body chassis and heavy-duty I-beam main rails allow customers to have ample space inside while providing maximum GVWR capacity.

What’s the Difference Between the Momentum, Momentum G-Class, and Momentum M-Class?

The biggest differences between the different classes are weight and finishes. The Momentum and Momentum M-Class are the top-of-the-line toy haulers with residential finishes. They also weigh the most.

The Momentum G-Class toy hauler and travel trailer models weigh less, although they still require a heavy-duty truck to tow them. They don’t have as many upgrades as the triple insulated garage floor and washer and dryer prep. Also, the price varies, as you’ll see below.

How Much Do the Momentum RVs Cost?

The 2022 base price for the Grand Design Momentum G-Class travel trailer model 21G, the smallest option, starts at around $58,000 MSRP. The most expensive model, the 31G, will begin at around $70,400 MSRP.

The 2022 Grand Design Momentum G-Class fifth wheels can cost around $93,000 to $95,000 MSRP.

The 2022 Grand Design Momentum M-Class fifth wheels, the most expensive of the toy haulers, will cost approximately $110,000 MSRP, and the Momentum fifth wheels will start around $130,000 MSRP.

Remember, prices will vary based on location and dealer. If you have a tighter budget, check out used Grand Design Momentums. Plus, you’ll still receive excellent customer service.

Is a Momentum Toy Hauler Worth It?

Whether a Momentum toy hauler is worth it depends on your budget and lifestyle. If you can get by with a smaller unit in the G-Class travel trailer series, the price tag compares to some of the other travel trailers out there. But if you know you have lots of toys to bring along or have a large family, you’ll need to search for the fifth wheel options, and those get pricier.

So it depends on if you can afford one of the models. Grand Design has put in a lot of effort to create toy haulers that offer ample space in the garage while not sacrificing finishing touches in the living space.

Another question to ask yourself is, do you have a truck to pull a Momentum? If not, you’ll have to spend even more money to find a heavy-duty truck, so consider that as you think about your budget. The Grand Design Momentum series features fantastic options. Are one of those for you?
