When shopping for an RV, it’s hard to know which brands to trust. What travel trailer will last you more than a year? What fifth wheel won’t give you problem after problem? Although no manufacturer can 100% tell you their RVs will last for years and years, some brands are worth investing in. Dutchmen RV is one of those companies.

Let’s look at the company and the different types of RVs it offers!

About Dutchmen RV

Dutchmen RV has been in business since 1988. Founded by RVers, for RVers, they manufacture nine brands of RVs, from travel trailers to fifth wheels to toy haulers. The company also offers an industry-best 3-year structural warranty for owners. And if you sell your RV within the first year of ownership, you can transfer the warranty to the next owner.

Dutchmen RV also inspects every travel trailer, fifth wheel, and toy hauler that leaves the facility in Indiana. Each unit goes through a 253-point inspection for a top-to-bottom examination. Their parts and service department ships more than 1,400 parts daily, and 90% of orders ship in three days or less. They also pride themselves on their customer service as they answer 98% of calls without going to voicemail, and they answer 90% of calls in 20 seconds or less.

Who Owns Dutchmen RV?

Keystone RV, a subsidiary of Thor Industries, owns Dutchmen RV. Thor Industries acquired the company in 1991 after Dutchmen RV became the second-largest manufacturer of travel trailers and fifth wheels.

Thor Industries also owns numerous other brands such as Airstream, Jayco, and Heartland RV. This company has been in business since 1980 and has been a leader in the RV industry since then, acquiring 17 North American manufacturers over the years.

About Keystone RV and Thor

After the acquisitions of Dutchmen RV, Four Winds International, El Dorado Motor Corp, and National Coach, Thor Industries became the second-largest manufacturer of RVs in North America by 1994. The company continued to grow, buying Skamper, Komfort, Champion Bus, and Keystone RV by 2001.

Keystone RV was founded in 1996 and listed at number two on the Inc. 500 list of fastest-growing companies in 2000. This may be why Thor Industries was so interested in the company and agreed to the $145-million purchase.

Where Are Dutchmen RV Made?

The main facility is in the heart of RV country in Goshen, Indiana. Elkhart County, Indiana, is “the RV capital of the world,” where one out of every two RVs on the road today are manufactured. Local RV factories in Elkhart County include Alliance RV, Forest River Industries, Grand Design RV, and Newmar Corporation.

Dutchmen RV makes nine different brands. The Astoria and Atlas models come in both travel trailer and fifth wheel options, while the Aspen Trail, Colorado, Coleman Light, Coleman Lantern, and Kodiak units are all travel trailers. 1. My 2019 Aspen Trail by Dutchmen has done nothing, but fall apart and it has been barely used. The trailer must not have been inspected because every crack and nail that was filled you can see the filler or fingerprints of the person that did that job. Nails and screws come loose molding is peeling inside and out. I could go on for days so much for a quality trailer at 30+K.

  2. I call BS! I have a 2020 Aspen Trail. A complete waste of money. It is so cheaply built it’s ridiculous! Doors and drawers are a step above cardboard. Staples coming through the ceiling and walls. Air comes in around the windows. The dining room table will fall if you breathe on it. The floors creak. Even the magnets in the storage doors are cheap. I hate this trailer but unfortunately I have to pay on it 4 more years. Don’t buy one of these brands
