A cup splashes clean water out that has filtered out the dirt, aluminum, and other metals that came through the pipes using the Camco InLine Water Filter.

If you have a fresh water tank, an inline Camco water filter is a must-have! Any water that comes into your RV or camper for drinking, cooking, or even showering should first pass through an inline filter. It removes aluminum, heavy metals, bacteria, and other contaminants before they hit your pipes.

Camco TastePure Inline Water Filter Overview

Camco TastePURE RV Water Filter - New Advanced 6-Step Patent-Protected Filtration - Camping Essentials for Fresh Drinking Water - RV Inline Water Filter w/Flexible Hose Protector, Made in USA (40043)
  • 6-Step Water Filtration System: Filter hose washer, pre-filtration layer for debris, premium activated carbon filter,...
  • Superior Filtration Standard: Boost your water's purity with Granular Activated Carbon and Kinetic Degradation Fluxion...

We like the Camco TastePure Inline Water Filter because of its versatility and ease of use. You can attach it to any standard hose to provide cleaner water for various purposes.

This is a simple, easy-to-use water filter that’s perfect for RV, camper, and boat use. It’s a 20-micron sediment filter which means that it removes particles greater than 20 microns. It’s low-lead certified and protects from bacterial growth while in storage.

The TastePure comes with a flexible hose protector to reduce any hose connection strain.

Why Would You Need an Inline Water Filter?

Many water sources marked as potable can be unsafe, and it’s impossible to know how clean these water sources may be.

While traveling, you may fill your freshwater tank or containers from sources at gas stations or rest areas. Unless you’re using an inline filter, you could be letting contaminated water into your RV’s plumbing system.

Even if you and your family only drink bottled water, you’ll still be washing hands, cooking, and showering with your freshwater tank’s contents. The Camco TastePure could provide you with an inexpensive but essential form of protection.

Our Favorite Features

We wouldn’t want to recommend a product without first explaining its benefits. There are several features we appreciate about the Camco water filter, including the following:

Removes Aluminium, Heavy Metals, Hydrogen Sulfide, and Other Contaminants

Many water sources contain one or more of these contaminants, but there’s no way to test every water source on the road to see what’s in it. So, you need a filter that removes multiple things.

Along with removing aluminum, heavy metals, hydrogen sulfide, this Camco product also removes mercury, cadmium, and a few other harmful substances. It also uses GAC (Granular Activated Carbon) filtration to reduce taste, odor, chlorine, and sediment.

The Camco TastePure complies with all federal and state low lead laws, too, which gives you priceless peace of mind for around $17.

Wide Body Inline Design Increases Flow Rate

If you’ve ever owned a water pitcher, you’ve witnessed slow-flow water filters at work. You don’t have to worry about that with the USA-made Camco TastePure. It has a high-flow exterior, thanks to the width of the body and filter. It filters at high capacity, which means that it doesn’t take long to work.

Long-Lasting Filter Will Last All Camping Season

Due to the large filter capacity, the company guarantees the product up to 500 gallons of water. That means you’ll only need to buy one filter for this camping season. Folks who travel year-round should change the filter twice annually.

Cons

Of course, there will always be flaws with products, and you’ll have to decide for yourself if those cons overwhelm the positives. Here’s what we know:

Some reports about the Camco water filter mention that a poor O-ring seal can cause the hose piece to leak. They also say that you have to run the water for 30-60 seconds through the filter before drinking it because the filter gives off a poor taste and smell.

These are the two biggest complaints, but otherwise, consumers seem to be pretty happy with the product.

Alternatives to the Camco TastePure Inline Water Filter

The Camco TastePure is an excellent value, but if you decide it’s not for you, we’ve got a couple of suggestions for you.

Clear2O

CLEAR2O® RV AND MARINE INLINE WATER FILTER - Ideal for RV and Marine Use, Reduces Odors, Bad Taste, Chlorine with One Micron Solid Carbon Block, (Green) - CRV2006
  • 1 MICRON filtration solid carbon block filter reduces harmful contaminants. SUPERIOR WATER FILTRATION proprietary solid...
  • Eliminates bad taste and odors. ELIMINATES the unpleasant sulfur taste and odor from campground water. Reduces Bad...

The Clear2O water filter is also an inline filter that’s designed similarly to the Camco model. It filters for the same contaminants, and it should last from three to six months.

The most prominent contrast is the significantly lower micron rate, and reviewers say it substantially reduces water pressure as a result. Because the Clear2O uses a solid filter instead of a granular one, it takes much longer to purify the water.

The Clear2O costs between $30 and $42, depending on the seller.

Amazon Basics

Amazon Basics Inline Water Filter with Flexible Hose Protector, White
  • 20-micron sediment filter with KDF technology for healthier, cleaner, better-tasting water; designed for outdoor use
  • Connects to a standard water hose or faucet to filter water that flows through it; durable and long lasting—can last...

This Amazon Basics inline water filter is a 20-micron filter like the Camco and sells for about a dollar more. Like the Camco, it comes with a short hose piece to help prevent kinking and stress. The suggested lifespan of Amazon Basics filters is about three months, according to the manufacturer.

As with the Clear2O filter, reviewers note a reduced water pressure with this unit. That’s one of the most significant advantages of using the Camco model. Several reviewers who have tried all three options listed here will be returning to the Camco water filters.

An inline water filter is indeed an essential item to add to your must-have camping gear, and the Camco water filter seems to be the filter of choice for many RVers and boaters. Do your research to help you decide if it’s the right one for you.
