#1. Mammoth Mountain RV Park

About Mammoth Mountain RV Park

RVers and tent campers can enjoy Mammoth Mountain RV Park year-round. This park has both full and partial hook-up sites. With 175 sites and two cabins, you’ll find plenty of room for friends and family to join in on the fun. Campers can enjoy many great amenities, including a heated indoor pool, a laundry room, a rec room, and a children’s play area.

Best Features: This RV park has a great location. This RV Park, located near the Mammoth Lakes visitor center, has easy lake access. Those looking for a more rustic feel can enjoy the 17 tent-only sites. 

#2. New Shady Rest Campground

Address: 37° 38′ 50.4204″ N  118° 57′ 45.0756″ W

About New Shady Rest Campground: New Shady Rest Campground sits within Inyo National Forest. Due to the lack of RV hookups at this campground, you need a self-contained and self-sufficient RV. However, you do have access to a dump station, a restroom, and potable water. Those enjoying this campground should be aware of the active bear area, and bear boxes are provided and required. Shady Rest Campground opens seasonally starting in May for RV Camping. You can also visit the Mammoth Lakes visitor center located nearby.

Best Features: At 7,800 ft above sea level, you can escape the summer heat at Shady Rest Campground. You will find incredible wildlife and recreational opportunities such as hiking and fishing

#3. Coldwater Campground

Address: 37° 35′ 58.1820″ N  118° 59′ 48.0084″ W

About Coldwater Campground: You will find Coldwater Campground nestled amongst beautiful pines. This primitive RV campground has no hookups but does have potable water. Campers also have access to a bathhouse with flushable toilets. Mammoth Lakes, located nearby, provides many recreational opportunities. When a fire ban is not in place, campers can enjoy the provided fire pit. There are bear boxes provided.

Best Features: Those that enjoy fishing will love this campground. Mammoth Creek runs alongside the campground. You can also walk to Lake Mary, where you can fish for rainbow, brook, and brown trout. 

#4. Wagner’s Mammoth Pool Resort

*Closed for 2021 due to the destruction of the creek fire but rebuilding with a target opening in 2022 with all previous amenities.

About Wagner’s Mammoth Pool Resort: Both tent campers and RVers can enjoy Mammoth Pool Resort. Campers will have access to sites that fit all-size RVs. You will need a self-sufficient RV at this primitive site. The campground also has access to potable water. Campers can also take advantage of the vault toilets. Additionally, the camp store features plenty of supplies should you have forgotten a few essentials.

Best Features: You can cool off or go fishing in the creek that runs through the campground. They stock it with rainbow trout throughout the summer. Campers also have access to plentiful hiking opportunities. 

#5. Sagehen Meadows Campground

Address: 1N02A Mammoth Lakes, CA 93546

About Sagehen Meadows Campground: You will find Sagehen Meadows Campground about 30 minutes from Mammoth Lakes. This campground provides free boondocking for those wishing to do some RV camping. You will have no water access on-site, and campers need a  completely self-contained and self-sufficient RV. You don’t have to make reservations; however, they don’t provide any amenities. However, you can use the picnic tables throughout the area.

Best Features: Those looking to camp off-grid may enjoy this quiet place away from it all. Campers can get great nature and wildlife views without the hustle and bustle of busy campgrounds. 

Why Should You Visit Mammoth Lakes?

National parks have become extremely busy, including nearby Yosemite National Park. This is an excellent alternative for those who want to explore the beautiful lakes, hiking, and wildlife that the area offers without the crowds. You should visit Mammoth Lakes if you prefer a more solitary approach to nature and don’t require many amenities. The beauty of the area is hard to match.
