There is nothing better than kicking back and relaxing next to a fire. But when you’re RVing, not all parks have fire rings. And if they do, there may be restrictions on open fires during the summer (aka when you’re probably out camping). This is where a portable propane fire pit comes in!
What is a Portable Propane Fire Pit?
A portable propane fire pit is a fire pit that you can bring with you on the road. It is small enough to easily transport but packs a punch in terms of heat. The fuel source is propane, which is easy and cheap to use.
Benefits of Portable Propane Fire Pits
There are lots of benefits to using a portable propane fire pit. The first is convenience! It is easier to start and put out than a wood fire. All you have to do is turn on the propane, light it, and you have a roaring fire instantly. Then when you finish, just shut the propane off. No worrying if your fire is dead out or still smoldering.
Since the source is propane instead of wood, your fire is also more consistent. You can also use some portable propane fire pits for cooking. While you can cook on a wood fire too, propane is a more consistent temperature. This makes cooking much simpler.
You also don’t have to worry about chopping more wood and constantly adding to the fire. And if it rained during the day, there are no problems with damp wood.
And since you aren’t burning wood, you won’t have to worry about smelling like a bonfire for the rest of the trip. Bringing smokey clothes into a small space like an RV will quickly make the whole thing smell. That propane burns without odor is an enormous advantage over wood.
Portable Propane Fire Pits Are Perfect For RVers
Another benefit to a propane fire pit is that you can use it even if your RV site lacks a fire ring. And in places with burning restrictions, they may still allow a propane firepit. Be sure to double-check fire restrictions before using though!
When you bring your own portable fire pit with you, you never have to worry about if your RV site includes a fire ring. You can enjoy your own personal fire at a moment’s notice.
Having a portable firepit is also perfect for RVers. Since we travel all over the place, space is often at a premium. These portable firepits are usually small, which makes them great for taking on the road. You also don’t have to worry about transporting firewood, which is a big no-no.
What to Look for in a Propane Firepit
There are tons of portable propane firepits on the market. So how are you supposed to decide which one is the best? Here are a few things you should pay extra attention to when buying a firepit. And if you’re still not sure which to get, keep reading for our top recommendation.
First, you want a fire pit that is easy to use and store. If it takes forever to set up, you’re not likely to use it. And if it is difficult to store or takes up too much room, it won’t be ideal for Rving.
Another thing to consider is the reviews. Online reviews from people who have purchased an item are insightful. Before you buy anything, see what other people are saying about it. There is nothing worse than buying a lemon of a product. But luckily, this can usually be avoided when reading reviews.
Finally, when considering a propane firepit, you will want to look at the BTU. This number tells you about the heat output. A higher BTU will keep you warmer. We recommend getting something on the high end for BTU for maximum comfort. If you want your fire to be less toasty in the summer, you can usually lower the heat by turning down the propane.
The Best: The Outland Firebowl
- Perfect no mess campfire: with our fire pit say goodbye to dirty ash, expensive firewood, and bothersome smoke and enjoy...
- Compact and easy to transport: Travel size fire pit is lightweight and portable; Easily set up in minutes with no tools...
Our absolute favorite portable propane fire pit is the Outland Firebowl! The Outland Firebowl is a perfect size for RVing. It is large enough with its 19-inch diameter and 58,000 BTU to keep everyone in your party toasty warm.
Its low-profile design also increases the heat radius to help keep everyone around the fire comfortable. But it weighs just 25 pounds and is simple to store.
You can set up and take down this firepit in minutes with no tools. The Outland Firebowl is also made of high-quality, weather-resistant steel materials.
Another wonderful thing about the Outland Firebowl is safety. It is CSA approved to use during most fire bans, thanks to its spark-free fuel source. You can rest assured that once you turn the fire off, it won’t continue to spark or restart like wood fires might.
The Outland Firebowl firepit comes equipped with an adjustable knob for adjusting heat output. It also includes a 10-foot hose that attaches to a standard 20-lb propane tank. This lengthy hose allows you to tuck the propane tank out of sight so you can enjoy a beautiful fire with no visual distractions.
What People are Saying about the Outland Firebowl
We love the Outland Firebowl, but don’t just take our word for it. The Firebowl has a 4.8/5 star rating on Amazon. Here’s what people are saying online.
MP from Amazon says, “This is very sturdy and well made. I anticipate many years of enjoyment as long as I keep it out of the weather. I’m very pleased with my purchase. I can’t imagine any reason you wouldn’t be too. Unless you really just want a wood fire.”
Pamela Tidd, another happy Amazon customer, has this to say, “I love this fire bowl. I’m using it on my redwood deck and it puts out PLENTY of heat. In fact, I need to turn it down. It is beautiful to watch and mesmerizing. The best part about this beautiful fire bowl is that when it is going to rain, I just unhook it and put it away… EASY. I also got the Outland propane tank cover and I am very pleased with the combo. I can leave the propane tank out on the deck all the time, it looks good and I don’t have to worry about it being out in the weather.”
We also have the propane tank cover and agree with the review above. It does a great job hiding the tank and due to the hardtop, it doubles as a side table!
- 【Fit Well】: The side zipper allows you to put the cover on or off easily. The drawstring design at the bottom can...
- 【Outside Storage Pocket】: A storage pocket with flap on each side. You can put a lighter and other small objects in...
In our experience, using this fire pit on low put out more than enough heat for even 6-8 of us huddled around it. On those extra chilly nights, we put the fire bowl inside our pop-up gazebo and it’s seriously the best. The tent really keeps the heat in, and we’ve sat 8 of us comfortably in there.
Staying Warm with the Outland Firebowl
As you can see from the high ratings and raving reviews, the Outland Firebowl is as good as it gets. Having a portable propane fire pit is an easy decision for RVers. It is small, portable, and convenient. And if you want the best, you’ll want the Outland Firebowl. We know you’ll love cozying up by a pleasant fire on all your camping trips.
