Where Are the Poconos Located?

The Pocono Mountain range is in northeastern Pennsylvania. They’re about 100 miles west of New York City, and Mt. Pocono is about 55 miles north of Allentown, PA.

The mountains are a secluded escape in nature but close to cities and tourist attractions for day trips. You’ll find everything you need near Pocono camping areas.

Why Are the Poconos Famous?

The Poconos are a popular and budget-friendly honeymoon destination. Once famous for its mountain ski resorts and theaters, travelers started flocking here in the early 1900s.

Due to Americans traveling more domestically and internationally starting in the late 1990s, the resorts began losing popularity.

Many closed down and are now being demolished or repurposed. While there are a few you can still visit, camping is much more common in the Poconos.
