Grand Design is a well-known brand in the RV industry. The Transcend, Imagine, Reflection, Solitude, and Momentum series are great options. Whether you’re looking for a travel trailer, fifth wheel, or toy hauler for an individual, couple, or family, you’ll find something to fit your needs at Grand Design. One of the entry-level options is the Imagine travel trailer. Let’s take a closer look at the Grand Design Imagine and explore its features.

Who Is Grand Design RV?

Grand Design is a leading manufacturer of travel trailers, fifth wheels, and toy haulers. Two brothers, Ron and Bill Fenech, and their close friend, Don Clark, founded the company in 2021. They’re focused on providing quality campers for long-term use and listening to customers’ feedback to improve their products.

Many seasoned RVers own a Grand Design because of their quality and excellent customer service. Grand Design also offers warranties for full-time use and are “Extended Stay Approved.” All Grand Design models are also backed by a three-year limited structural warranty and offer extended warranties for other unit components.

What Is the Grand Design Imagine Line?

The Grand Design Imagine line is designed for individuals, couples, and families who want to escape from their day-to-day lives. A step above the Transcend and Transcend XPLOR, the Imagine line features a four-season protection package, laminated walls, double insulated floor/underbelly, double insulated roof, and double insulated front cap. This quality is important for travelers who want to explore all areas of the U.S. regardless of temperature or weather conditions. Let’s take a look at the individual units offered in the Grand Design Imagine line.

About the Grand Design Imagine XLS

The smaller of the two travel trailer series, the Imagine XLS floorplans start at less than 5,000 pounds (empty). This is important for travelers who want to tow with a vehicle they already have instead of buying a large truck. Some SUVs and smaller pick-up trucks can tow the Imagine XLS.

Choose from among six floorplans. The smallest, the 17MKE, is almost 22 feet long with a GVWR of about 6,400 pounds. This floorplan features a queen murphy bed, theater dinette with removable table, and rear bathroom. This travel trailer is a good option for singles or couples looking for a weekend adventure.

Families should check out the bunk options that come in the 21BHE and 23BHE models. The smaller bunk model is the 21BHE. It’s almost 25 feet long with a GVWR of about 6,400 pounds. The bunks are in the rear, next to the full bathroom. A queen murphy bed sits at the front of the camper.

The larger bunk model, the 23BHE, is almost 28 feet long with a GVWR of about 7,000 pounds. The biggest difference between this model and the smaller bunk model is the master bedroom. Instead of a queen murphy bed, there’s a separate bedroom with a queen bed and overhead storage.

About the Grand Design Imagine

With nine available floorplans, the Grand Design Imagine series offers more options that are larger and heavier than the Imagine XLS series. The Imagine travel trailers range from about 5,700 pounds to 8,500 pounds (empty). With this large range, you’ll certainly want to pay attention to your towing capacity.

The smallest option is the 2400BH. This model features bunks in the rear next to the full bathroom. There’s a queen bed in the front bedroom. This model also has a small outdoor kitchen. At 29 feet and about 7,500 pounds, you could tow this travel trailer with a half-ton truck.

The smallest non-bunk model option is the 2500RL. This is a great option for individuals or couples looking for a travel trailer with a rear living area. It’s almost 30 feet long with a GVWR of about 7,500 pounds. The 2500RL is easy to get into most sites, including state and national parks, because of its size.

If you’re looking for a bigger option, check out the 3100RD, the largest non-bunk model in the Imagine line. With a huge rear den with three separate seating areas, a large tv, and a fireplace, you’ll love hanging out in this space. Since this model is almost 36 feet and 9,500 pounds, you’ll need to make sure your vehicle can handle this one.

The largest bunk model is the 3250BH. It features a separate bunkhouse for the kids with four bunks. This unit also features a kitchen island and a front master bedroom with a queen bed. Again, you’ll need a larger vehicle to tow this since it’s almost 37 feet and more than 10,000 pounds.

What’s the Difference Between Grand Design Imagine and Reflection Travel Trailers?

The biggest difference between the Grand Design Imagine travel trailers and the Grand Design Reflection travel trailers is the luxury. Just as the Imagine is a step up from the Transcend, the next step up is the Reflection series. Features like ductless flooring and stainless steel appliances aren’t in the Imagine series models. The Reflection travel trailers also have heated holding tanks.

How Much Do Grand Design Imagine Travel Trailers Cost?

A new 2022 Imagine XLS will start around $35,000, and a new 2022 Imagine will start around $44,000. Obviously, depending on the floor plan and features, this price will vary. Also, you can find used models at a lower price. Some dealers will have both new and used models on their lots.

What Kind of Vehicle Do You Need to Tow Grand Design Imagine?

A few important things to consider when towing any travel trailer are towing capacity, hitch weight, and bed length. The towing capacity is how much weight the vehicle can pull. Know your vehicle’s towing capacity and the GVWR of the travel trailer, which is the fully loaded weight. The hitch weight is how much weight you can put on your vehicle’s hitch. Finally, the bed length matters because short bed trucks can’t pull campers over a certain length.

All of these measurements and weights matter, not just towing capacity. So make sure to read the owner’s manual of both the vehicle and travel trailer. A half-ton truck or SUV can pull some of the Grand Design Imagine travel trailers but not all.

Is the Grand Design Imagine a Good Travel Trailer?

Grand Design produces good quality travel trailers. Many Grand Design owners are satisfied with their purchases and have maintained loyalty to the company over the years. Since Grand Design is a respected and well-known brand, repairs shouldn’t be an issue, either. Dealers are familiar with Grand Design, and their service departments should be able to complete repairs.

So what will your next travel trailer purchase be? Will you have a Grand Design Imagine or Imagine XLS soon?
