Thousand Trails Acton Of The Beautiful San Gabriel Mountains

Noted as having “the largest pool in Southern California,” Thousand Trails has a gem shimmering from within its collection of campgrounds in The Golden State. Soledad Canyon RV and Camping Resort, more commonly known as Thousand Trails Acton, has long been touted as a prime stop for RVers exploring the region. In fact, adventurers from another generation discovered just how priceless the area was when they encountered gold here long before Sutter’s Mill brought prospectors to California. Today’s valuable assets are found in the satisfied faces of campers who fall in love with this land along the Santa Clara River.

Thousand Trails in Acton, CA

Located in the semi-arid San Gabriel Mountains of Southern California, Soledad Canyon Resort lies just north of Los Angeles. Day trips into LA are a common occurrence from this campground, as the city and its many suburbs are within an hour’s drive. The small town of Acton is 5 minutes away, with a few amenities, and the larger community of Santa Clarita is just 30 minutes to the west.

The resort is open year-round and is easily accessible from California Highway 14 just north of Acton on the southern end of Antelope Valley. It is a little higher in elevation than Los Angeles so will get the occasion snow dusting but it never sticks around longer than 12 hours. The surrounding countryside is filled with horse ranches, historical sites, and the Angeles National Forest, where hiking opportunities abound.

Sites

With 853 campsites for RVs and tents, the Thousand Trails in Acton has room for virtually any size motorhome or travel trailer. You’ll find plenty of pull-thru sites, as well as back-ins, with the Santa Clara riverbed running through much of the campground.  Campsite hookups range from no electric to water and sewer only and to full hookups for both 30 amp and 50 amp needs. There are several shower houses scattered around the property, along with playgrounds for the kids.

If you don’t have an RV, no problem! Thousand Trails has several cabins available for rent. They can sleep 2 to 6 people and have all the luxuries of a cabin in the woods, like a heater, stove, refrigerator, and even indoor plumbing! You can have a great camping experience here without ‘roughing it!’

No RV park is perfect, and although Thousand Trails Acton has plenty of chutzpah going for it, there are a few drawbacks that campers should be aware of.

  • Railroad tracks run close by the resort, so expect to hear a train or two during your stay!
  • Cell service is sketchy in some parts of the campground. Do some testing as you select your campsite if you require cellular service while residing at the park. We have found that section N has the best service.

If Soledad Canyon RV and Camping Resort (aka Thousand Trails Acton) sounds like the perfect destination for your next camp trip, look into getting a Thousand Trails Camping Pass. You can purchase a year-long membership in one of five zones across the United States, which provide up to 27 different campgrounds in each zone for you to explore.

Each of the campgrounds allows a stay of up to 14 days at a time free of charge(up to 21+ days with upgraded membership options). And if one region isn’t enough adventure for you, grab an extra pass for a separate zone at a substantially discounted rate. If you’re really ambitious, why not get all five-zone camp passes and work your way through the Northwest, Southwest, Midwest, Southeast, and Northeast in one year?

Thousand Trails gives you the opportunity to enjoy camping across the country at a reasonable rate, and with campgrounds like Soledad Canyon RV and Camping Resort, you will relish every minute of your trip!
