It may shock you to hear, but Dodge no longer makes Ram trucks. What’s more surprising is that it’s been that way since 2009. That means it’s been almost 14 years since Dodge and Ram went on their happy ways and became separate brands. Today we’ll take a closer look at this split, and learn more about these powerful trucks. Let’s get started.

About Ram Trucks

Ram Trucks, formerly Dodge Ram, became its own brand when it separated from Dodge in 2009. They’re known for being reliable, powerful, durable, high quality, and for having loyal owners. If you’ve spent any time in campgrounds in recent years, you’ve likely noticed the increase of Rams pulling massive RVs.

Ram Trucks offer everything from the Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 for standard passenger vehicles. However, if that’s not enough, they offer a commercial line that includes the Ram 4500 and 5500. They tow from the ground up. Not only will they get the job done, but they’ll look great while doing it.

Who Makes Ram Trucks?

Who makes Ram trucks? The Ram Trucks Division currently makes them. This was a direct result of the 2009 brandling split between Dodge and Ram Trucks. This allows the line to continue to evolve as its own brand and identity.

Who Owns the Ram Truck Brand?

Who owns Ram trucks? Stellantis now owns the truck line due to a merger between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Group. The company executives agreed on the merger in December 2020 and approved it in January 2021.

What Happened to Dodge?

Dodge and Ram went their separate ways to allow each brand to grow its own identity. While Ram Trucks produces pickup vehicles, Dodge continues to produce their passenger vehicles, focusing on performance. Their most popular performance vehicles include the Charger and Challenger.

Where Are Ram Trucks Made?

Currently, Ram trucks are made at multiple plants across the United States and Mexico. The two-door Ram 1500 “Classic” is manufactured at the Warren Truck Plant in Warren, Michigan, and the Saltillo Plant in Saltillo, Mexico. Any “new series” trucks are assembled at Sterling Heights Assembly in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

Ram Models

If you go shopping for a Ram, you’ll have a handful of models to consider. Let’s take a look at each and see which model fits you the best.

When you look at the higher trims, you’ll find one of the most luxurious trucks ever created. Heated and ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, and wood accents are just a few of the luxuries you can enjoy.

The Ram 1500 looks good and works hard. When properly configured, it can tow 12,750 lbs and has a payload capacity of 2,320 lbs.

Not only is it strong, but it also gets excellent miles per gallon with 20 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, but the diesel version gets 22 mpg city and 32 highway. This truck looks good and gets the job done.

RAM 2500

The massive 7-inch driver information digital cluster display makes it incredibly easy to keep your eyes on the road. Ram has added useful features like a trailer light check and off-road pages to the menu of options. They also created various seating arrangements to help increase cargo-carrying options inside the massive cab interior.

RAM 3500

The Ram 3500 full-ton truck starts at $36,880. If you want a pickup with power built to haul, this is it. This towing machine has a max payload of 7,680 lbs and a max towing capacity of 37,100 lbs.

You’ll feel the power when you press the accelerator and feel every bit of the 420 horsepower. You’ll have trouble finding a load this truck can’t handle.

The adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warnings, and enhanced stopping power are just a few of the safety mechanisms that keep you safe. However, it doesn’t stop there.

Blind-spot monitoring and lane departure warnings also help make this truck one of the safest trucks to drive. When you choose the Ram 3500, you not only get a strong truck but a safe truck too.

Pro Tip: Compare the Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 and find out which is better for your towing needs.

RAM 5500

The Ram 5500 starts at $41,000 but is a multi-purpose commercial truck. You can outfit it for many possibilities and capabilities. This truck has a massive 12,510 payload capacity and can tow a best-in-class 35,220 lbs.

This truck can handle anything you throw at it and with ease. Whether you want to fit this truck as a work truck, snow plow, or haul a massive RV across the country, this beast can surely do the job.

Are Ram Trucks Good Tow Vehicles for RVs?

When it comes to a good tow vehicle for RVs, Ram is always a contender for best-in-class towing. They can handle the heavy loads and bumps in the road.

Even the base models of each line serve as quality tow vehicles. However, ensure that you stay within the towing parameters on whichever size Ram truck you purchase.

  1. My first new Ram was a 1984 ,1988,1993,2004,2018 . I was a Chevy man before the dodge / Ram trucks. I was sick of the junk that GM was selling. And the fact that they do not stand behind them. I have never once had a problem with any of my Ram trucks. I have put up to 559,000 miles on my Ram trucks I have kept the 1993 w 250 ,it’s got 430,000 miles on the clock and still going strong. I have recently had it’s transmission rebuild for the first time.

  2. Interesting take. Actually Stellantis owns both Dodge and Ram branded products. Before that, FCA, before that Daimler-Chrysler and before that, Chrysler Corp. The separation between brands is marketing. Period. As an example, the hellcat engine or, the 6.2 L Supercharged V8. It can be found in either a Dodge car, SUV, Jeep Grand Cherokee or a RAM TRX. Seems to me that they’re all still under one roof. Don’t get me wrong, I am a die-hard fan of the products and infact, own two and have owned a total of five since I purchased my first Cummins powered Ram in 2005. I still call my Ram truck a Dodge as do most Ram owners. Great vehicles BTW. I have had no issues with any from fit and finish to electronics to mechanical.

  3.
