We normally aren’t big on romantic getaways since we’re more about adventure and exploring, but we decided to ring in 2015 a little differently. We booked three nights at Tahoma Meadows Bed & Breakfast and set off for our romantic getaway to Lake Tahoe, CA. We just happened to get our dog, Carmen five days earlier so thankfully this place was dog-friendly and we were able to bring her along!
Wednesday, December 31st
We drove up the morning of 12/31 to be sure to make our 10:30 pm NYE dinner reservations at Gar Woods Grill & Pier. Dinner was excellent and we even got to have a champagne toast with everyone in the restaurant at midnight! We called it a night shortly after midnight to head back to the B&B and pass out (a long day of driving and late dinner will do that to you).
Thursday, January 1st
We started off the 1st day of 2015 with a delicious home-made breakfast that included with our reservation at Tahoma Meadows and hit the road with our puppy in tow. With no plans for the day, we decided to go for a walk on Meeks Bay Trailhead; it was perfect being bundled up with the fresh mountain air stinging our cheeks. We spent quite some time on this trail and ran into a handful of other dogs for Carmen to play with. Once we were done with the trail, we headed out to the main lookout point for Lake Tahoe to get pictures of the gorgeous views. Once we got our photos, we hurried back to our hotel to drop of Carmen so we could rush off to our couples massage at the Lighthouse Spa. Honestly, it was a day filled with leisure and we wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Friday, January 2nd
Again with no plans for the following day, we decided to walk around the lake shore and ended up at Chambers Landing. There was a vast open area covered in fresh snow that we let Carmen run around in… she loved the snow! There was a small pier that we went out on and were greeted with picture perfect views of the crystal clear water and stunning mountain backdrop.
We ended up spending our whole morning out and worked up quite an appetite. Our B&B owners recommended lunch at the Bridgetender and we are so glad they did; the food was awesome and the environment lively. After lunch we went on a 20-minute car ride up to Olympic Valley. There we walked around the shops and checked out the Squaw Valley slopes. This place was packed with skiers, snowboarders, families, and dogs; you could feel the positive energy of everyone enjoying their day. After a full day of exploring, we decided to make dinner at our B&B (since it had a partial kitchen!) and call it a night.
Saturday, January 3rd
On our last morning in Tahoe we slept in a bit, grabbed breakfast, and began packing up. We were on the road by 11 am and not ready to end our vacation! Since it was only Saturday and we weren’t in a rush to get home, we decided to make one last stop to Bodie State Historic Park off of the 395 highway (about 75 miles south of Lake Tahoe). We found the history of this town to be fascinating and highly recommend it if you’re in the area. Considering this place was officially a boomtown in 1876 and labeled a ghost town in 1915, it has some history to tell.
The remainder of our day was spent driving home and discussing our resolutions for 2015. Overall, we highly recommend a romantic getaway to Lake Tahoe if you need to hit the reset button. The fresh air, beautiful views, and relaxed vibe will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to take on anything. We want to make another trip up there during the summer as well; we’ll keep you posted!
