What Is a Camper Van?

A camper van, also called a Class B RV, is a small motorhome built on a van chassis. These rigs are perfect getaway vehicles for solo travelers or couples who appreciate the agility and convenience of a small camper.

Don’t let the word “van” confuse you, though. We’re not talking about a minivan with a mattress thrown in the back. Today’s camper vans offer residential-style luxury like never before. You can expect to find high-tech features, comfortable sleeping areas, functional kitchens and bathrooms, and plenty of storage space.

How Much Does a Camper Van Cost?

We’ll cut to the chase — new camper vans are expensive. Smaller units without bathrooms, like the 2022 Pleasure-Way Tofino, start around $85,000. If you’re looking for something a little larger with full amenities, you can pay anywhere from $120,000 to $235,000.

While this pricing may seem high, remember you’re getting an all-in-one home on wheels. If you were buying a separate RV trailer and tow vehicle, you might pay just as much for the two.
